Couture Power With Tony Ward
1.As we enter the world of Tony Ward, we all know the legacy and heritage behind the brand itself, can you please share with us how it all came into life?
It all started 75 years ago with my father Elie Ward who was a pioneer of Couture in Beirut and who established the Ateliers of Couture. And here I am, 25 years later since I established my own brand while keeping this legacy alive through his unique savoir faire.
2.How would you describe Tony Ward Couture in few words?
I would simply describe it as a great adventure! A driven passion & an exciting challenge; it all started in a small street in Achrafieh, Beirut growing into a building of Ateliers, while reaching all four corners of the world.
3.Can you tell us more about your vision for the latest SS23 collection presented in Paris and what was your feedback after the show?
‘The end of an era and the start of a new era’
4.Your favorite piece from Star Dust Voyage collection?
No favorite piece; I would never favor a piece over another, as for me they are all full of identity with their own storytelling & voice. The wedding dress was quite of a story though.
5.Are your inspirations drawn from anything in specific or is just an emotion that spontaneously comes into life?
Inspiration comes from everything & from anywhere! Emotions come spontaneously after I translate the inspiration into my collection.
6.Tell us more about Tony Ward brides and how important is it in your opinion to take the ‘dream walk’ with the bride herself in terms of design and fabrics to choose from?
Imagining the bride in her dream dress, & picturing her walking in her wedding, is the most important thing before designing. Then this imagination comes to reality and the design comes to life with the fabrics/volume to integrate.
7.Your favorite fabrics to work with?
I don’t have a favorite fabric, but I like new innovations & techniques.
8.Your favorite Hollywood and / or Middle East actress that you wish to collaborate with?
No one in specific, I really admire each placement.
9.Who is the woman you create your pieces for and what is your design aesthetic?
A woman full of confidence, who loves her body & puts on the dress as her second dress; she dresses up for her inner self & not for others, she is full of glam without selfishness!
